Preparing and revising for your driving theory test should be just like getting ready for any other examination or test. The right materials and thorough preparation are still crucial even though you may be feeling more pressure than before any other exam. But reading through and learning the Highway Code off by heart is certainly a tricky thing to do, especially if reading through something and memorising it isn’t your revision style. You need something that is going to drill this information into your mind so that you can recall it for the test, and be able to remember it when you’re out on the road. So here are the top five theory test products that come with everything you’ll need to know for the new updated test.

Firstly we have The Complete Theory Test 2011 edition for the computer. This version is valid until September 2011 and contains every single possible question that you could be asked, so that you can learn the answers. You can also practice hundreds of Hazard Perception tests to help you prepare for the real thing. This product also contains an introduction video, which will talk you through the day of your test so you will know what to expect.

Secondly, The Official DSA Complete Theory Test Kit (also valid until September 2011) which is the official guide that is written by the same people who set the tests, so obviously they really know what you will be asked on the day. The DVD comes with clear guidance and tutorials on how to recognise and deal with hazards.

Next we have The Official DSA Theory Test for Car Drivers which again is written by the same people who write the exams, but there are some extra features. This one provides the closest and most realistic test experience with standard and customised tests. The CD provided is the only one to provide full DSA explanations of answers. There is also a helpful voice over option for people with dyslexia or reading difficulties.

The fourth option is the Driving Test Success All Tests 2011 Edition (PC) edition which is extremely helpful as not only does it come with every answer to the theory test and realistic hazard perception videos, it will also help to prepare you for your practical test. You can watch a full mock driving video from inside the car which will show you exactly what the examiner will be looking out for.

The final product is The Official DSA Theory Test for Motorcyclists which provides learners with every single possible question they could be asked on the day. It also includes several case studies for you to practice with for all 14 topics of the test. At the end of each mock test, you can also analyse your performance history to see which areas you are best at and which ones you need more practice at.

New young drivers are most often the ones who want to get a car the most, and are usually the insurance because of the prices. But why do companies charge young drivers so much? Well it is because insurance companies see younger people as a greater risk when it comes to driving, not just because they get into more accidents than older drivers but also because their cars are more likely to be stolen.

This ‘risky’ period that insurance companies associate with young drivers can last up until they are 25, which is a long time to go without a car or with tremendously expensive insurance. But if you are careful, don’t get into any accidents and keep your no claims bonus, prices offered to you could come down a lot quicker.
It is possible for young people to get their cars insured for prices that they can afford, but it can be a long and difficult process. So here are some hints to help you cut down those prices and how to look for different ones.

Don’t under any circumstances whatsoever even consider driving a car without insurance. If you are pulled over or have an accident then the costs will be horrific for you. Especially if you are found to have alcohol or drugs in your system.

Firstly, whilst you are young it is definitely for the best if you don’t choose a shiny brand new sports car. Go for a small car with a tiny engine that will give you a low quote and you can build your way up as you get older. Something in good mechanical condition with a few dents here and there isn’t too bad!
If your parents have a decent little car that you will only drive occasionally, then it may be better if you get yourself added onto their insurance policy as a named driver. This idea is best if you’re not going to be driving to college every single day.

In order to find an insurance quote that is good for you, try searching through a few different price comparison websites. Just input as much information about yourself and the car you want to insure as possible in order to narrow down the results. It is good to try out a few as you may get a different selection from each site.

Buying any car can be a daunting experience, but when it’s your first car it can be even scarier. Sometimes, the excitement of purchasing a car can sometimes overshadow your judgement. And when you can’t find a suitable one that you can afford, the disappointment will be worse.

So the first step is to be realistic and work out whether you can actually afford to buy. Work out the entire cost of the car, not just the initial price, but the insurance, road tax, petrol MOT and any possible future repairs. Buying a car can be easily affordable for many people, but nowadays it is insuring the vehicle that is always a problem especially for young people that have just passed their driving test.

When it actually comes to looking for a car, you will be better off if you take a trip down to a recognised dealer if you want a brand new car. However, if you’re not opposed to a used car (and these will be cheaper) try franchised dealers. Independent dealers are also good for cheaper cars. The Internet is even better, but buying on the Internet will make it difficult for you to see the car for yourself, and your legal rights will also be limited.

When you do find a car that you like and appears to be in good working condition, make sure that you ask the dealer/owner about its service history and ask to see the car’s documentation. If they are reluctant to show you then that should set off warning bells in your head.

Don’t let the owner/dealer pressure you into paying for the car on the spot. Take it for a thirty minute test drive (but first check that you are covered by the dealer’s insurance). The point of a test drive is to see if the like the feel of a car and whether it suits you and also whether it runs fine and the brakes work etc.

Once you’ve decided that you want the car, most dealers will let you pay a deposit and keep hold of the car for you until you find insurance. It is imperative that you shop around and find this as soon as possible.

Road tax is valid for six or twelve months. Sometimes, if you’re lucky with used cars, you can get the dealer to throw in the road tax for you. And maybe even the MOT which is required for a car that has been registered for three or more years.

Any kind of test or examination can set off nerves but there is so much pressure on young people to take and pass their driving test because of their friends and how much it costs, which is the main loss when you fail a driving test. Don’t let anyone put pressure on you to pass. If you do, great! But if you don’t then realise that it is not the end of the world and it can easily be retaken.

Driving nerves can affect many learner drivers’ ability so they end up doing worse than they should have done. Symptoms of nervousness such as sweaty palms and forehand, loss of concentration and a pounding heart will do nothing to help your confidence.

Firstly, think about what your instructor has told you. They are the expert and they think that you are capable and ready to take your test. That in itself should be a vote of confidence for you.

Make sure you know exactly where the test centre is, how to get there, and whether or not that route gets particularly busy at any point during the day. This preparation will help you to arrive at your test with plenty of time to prepare and relax.

Use your nerves to your advantage by embracing them. If you walk into your test feeling big-headed and confident then you may be more likely to make a mistake. By being a little bit nervous, your brain will be more alert and you will be able to recall information more easily.

Avoid cramming for the driving theory test the night before and make sure that you get regular revision sessions into your daily life for example, try slotting in an hour or two of practice every day. Don’t just learn new things too, make sure you go back and make sure you know everything.

If you feel yourself getting panicky, try concentrating on your breathing by doing some deep breathing exercises. Concentrating on the simple action of breathing in and out will help relax you by taking your mind off the test and will also help to get a sufficient amount of oxygen to your brain. Don’t resort to having a cigarette as this will only increase your heart rate and make you even more nervous. The nicotine doesn’t help smokers feel that calmness that they claim, this comes more from the actual action of smoking.
